1. Why rent a car on the Coral Coast
It's not just about having a means of transportation. In this region, a car allows you to organize your trip around the low tide, which is the absolute best time to enjoy the famous natural pools before the massive tour crowds arrive.
Public transportation here has limited schedules, private transfers are not cheap, and renting a buggy for every single ride ends up costing even more. Plus, group excursions mean waiting times and stops that often don't match our interests.
2. What we were looking for in the ideal car
On this trip, three of us were traveling, so we wanted a comfortable vehicle with a spacious trunk where all our luggage could be stored securely out of sight. We also wanted power steering, an engine with a good response for climbing the coastal hills and viewpoints of the Brazilian coast, good fuel efficiency, and an excellent balance between price and features.

We took the car on a ferry boat, made it to the spectacular Carro Quebrado beach, drove through a green tunnel made of tall canes, and on our way back, chose a different road winding through endless sugarcane fields. Those spontaneous detours ended up becoming some of the best memories of the trip.
Another major advantage was the freedom to go out for dinner at night. On several beaches, the restaurants aren't close to the accommodations, and having a vehicle made moving around incredibly easy, without depending on schedules or trying to find a local transfer.
